Uniqueness
At Hamel Substance Abuse Services, we think outside the box
… or rather outside the walls.

Clients benefit from the innovative components
of our unique programs, many of which use
traditional a 12-step approach.

In some cases 12 step programs are not for everybody,
we here at HSAS are well versed in
several alternative techniques, philosophies
and methods to achieve a healthier lifestyle.

Our Mission
As the saying goes, getting sober is easy;
staying sober is the hard part and the first year of
recovery is the most difficult.

Research shows involvement in an
appropriate 12-step recovery program can be one of
the most effective tools in achieving and
maintaining recovery.
HSAS incorporates supportive 12-Step and
other alternative methods into our clients
plans for ongoing care.

It is our goal to help clients reach sobriety and maintain it.
We do this in a number of ways,
including specialized educational recovery programs.
As clients go through the treatment
and education process,
they learn that there really are other options.

They learn skills necessary to recognize these
options and how to incorporate them into daily activities.
They may discover that the key to success is not
in hiding from situations and relationships
that may trigger their addictive behaviors,
but that they have the power to make better choices
to achieve the healthier lifestyle they desire.

Our clients can always stay in touch.
We love to hear from our alumni and
we are here to offer support whenever needed.

        Self Assessment:
Am I chemically dependent on drugs or alcohol?

Are you unhappy with the way your life is going?

Do you find yourself preoccupied with the thoughts
         of drinking or using?

Do you question yourself whether or not you have a problem?

Has anyone suggested to you that you might have a problem?

Do you drink or use alone? If so, how often?

If you drink, can you stop after one glass? Can you stop
         yourself from using?

Do you drink or use regardless of the consequences?

Has your job or have your relationships been negatively affected?

Has your sex drive been negatively affected?

Are you in jeopardy of losing your job or family because of use?

Do you refuse to go places socially where you cannot use or drink?

Do you need to drink or use to have fun or to enhance your
         social life?

Do you ever spend money that should be spent on bills?

Do you hide your use or lie about the amount you drink or use?

Is it uncomfortable for you in social situations without use?

Do you have any legal problems as a result of use?

Do you live in fear of loved ones finding out you drink or use?

Do you use or drink to cope with feelings of pain, anger,
         and/or depression?

Do you compromise your values or morals for a drink or to use?

Do you feel that you are different from others and that
         no one understands you?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, you could have a problem with
    alcohol or drugs.

We can help you determine that with a simple screening.

       On Another Note.....
Chemical dependency is a chronic, progressive
disease that invades and disrupts all areas of a
    person's life.

It affects more than 26 million Americans from
    every walk of life.

If untreated, chemical dependency can end in
    death.

The impact of the disease on the workplace is
significant and results in soaring medical bills and
    decreased productivity.

The impact on a chemically dependent person's
family can be devastating, sometimes contributing
to the neglect and abuse of loved ones and divorce.

Relationships in all areas of the chemically
dependent person's life are damaged … sometimes
    irreversibly.

    HSAS offer specialized chemical dependency
treatment programs that focus on personal
    responsibility.

They address all aspects of the disease:
    physical, psychological, behavioral, social, family
    and spiritual.

Patients are treated in our outpatient program for a
    variety of substance addictions, including:
              alcohol                 cocaine / crack
              marijuana            methamphetamine
              ecstasy                 inhalants
              heroin                  narcotic medications
                   All drugs of abuse

and other harmful drugs and chemical
    dependencies.

    Treatment includes education, group therapy,
    multi-family groups, relapse prevention plans,
    individual counseling, and appropriate 12-Step
    programs.

Each patient is urged to participate fully in the
    treatment process.

We recognize addiction as a family disease and
encourage the entire family to participate in
    treatment whenever possible.

In this way, clients' individual needs may be better
    identified and met.
